The Climate Trust is excited to announce that we are now accepting charitable gifts from donor-advised funds (DAFs) through an easy-to-use widget. The DAF Direct widget is a convenient way to donate. With a few clicks, DAF donors can recommend grants from their DAF to The Climate Trust.

DAF Direct’s mission is to support nonprofits by providing a cost-efficient and simple way for donors to give, and nonprofits to receive grants. The widget streamlines the charitable giving process, enabling donors to make a gift at the same moment they are interacting with their charity online.

DAF Direct currently facilitates grant recommendations from donors of Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Greater Kansas Community Foundation, and the BNY Mellon Charitable Gift Fund. More national and community foundation DAF sponsoring organizations may be added in the future.

For more background, a DAF is a centralized account that allows charitably inclined individuals, families, and businesses to make tax-deductible charitable donations of cash, publicly-traded stock, and, in some cases, certain illiquid assets, to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program.

DAFs also allow donors to approach their charitable giving thoughtfully by involving other family members or colleagues in their philanthropic decisions. Most DAFs accept donations of long-term appreciated securities and other assets, and donors can advise how the funds are invested, which could potentially allow tax-free growth, and could result in more money for the donor’s charity of choice.

A DAF Donation to The Climate Trust

The Climate Trust is committed to preventing a disastrous rise in global temperatures by funding quality projects that accelerate the pace of carbon mitigation. Since its inception, we have committed $33.2M to projects that will reduce 5.5M tons of carbon dioxide across a broad array of sectors. Through our first-of-its-kind investment fund we will deploy $5.5M to U.S.-based projects in 2016, and then an additional $10M over 2017 and 2018.

All DAF donations will be allocated to high-impact projects in the forestry, grassland conservation, and livestock digester sectors.
