The Climate Trust was pleased to serve as a Platinum Sponsor for the 2018 Celebrating Women in Leadership Fundraiser spearheaded by the Oregon Commission for Women (OFCW). Senior leadership from The Trust was in attendance on Thursday, April 26th, 2018, for an evening of networking, discussion and dialogue among supporters of women’s leadership in the state. The Trust’s long-time partner, NW Natural was the host and presenting sponsor.

The event brought together state and business leaders, students, the Governor’s office, legislators and special guests to raise awareness of women’s achievements and challenges, and raise funds for the leadership development work of the OCFW, including scholarships for emerging leadership training and other opportunities that grow women’s leadership statewide. The OCFW is a Governor and Legislature appointed body tasked with advising state policy makers, including the Governor and legislators, on policy issues and matters of importance to women, public policy research and legislative advocacy.

The keynote speaker was 26-year-old Liliana Luna, a 2017 Woman of Achievement Emerging Leader awardee, PCC Multicultural Coordinator, PSU Graduate Student and a DACA recipient. Liliana’s remarks highlighted her personal journey to becoming a leader.

A panel discussion of women leaders had a lively dialog on intersecting identities and leadership journeys across generations. The panelists included:
  • Lux Preciado-Solis, Lincoln High School Senior, Center for Women’s Leadership Teen Council
  • Erika Nebel, Policy & Special Programs Advisor, City of Portland; New Leadership Oregon Alumna
  • Linda Castillo, New Portlanders Program Coordinator, City of Portland; Vice-Chair, Commission on Hispanic Affairs
  • Robin Morris Collin, Norma J. Paulus Professor of Law, Willamette University College of Law
  • Chanpone Sinlapasai-Okamura, Partner, Marandas Sinlapasai; Chair, Commission on Asian & Pacific Islander Affairs

“The OFCW delivered with an inspirational event celebrating the achievements of women from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and ages and sparking meaningful discussion about the challenges faced by women and leaders of color,” said Kasey Krifka, Senior Marketing Communications Manager for The Climate Trust. “The Climate Trust was honored to support these important discussions and to be in the company of such a strong lineup of Oregon leaders.”

Other event sponsors included: Portland State University, the State of Oregon, Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson, Rock Creek Multicultural Center, Brava Point, Marandas Sinlapasai, Politisit, YWCA of Greater Portland, Portland Housing Center, and AAUW.
